A lot of friends and Facebook fans have questions about meditation.

Most do not know where it came from, what it is, the benefits, and the different ways how to experience meditation. So, I thought I would try and shed some light on it below.

According to WebMD, meditation is a simple technique that, if practiced for as few as 10 minutes each day, can help you control stress, decrease anxiety, improve cardiovascular health, and achieve a greater capacity for relaxation.

Scholars have found meditation difficult to define, as practices vary both between traditions and within them.

Where Did Meditation Come From?

According to Wikipedia the English word meditation is derived from Old French meditacioun, in turn from Latin meditatio from a verb meditari, meaning “to think, contemplate, devise, ponder. The use of the term meditatio as part of a formal, stepwise process of meditation goes back to the 12th-century monk Guigo II.

Apart from its historical usage, the term meditation was introduced as a translation for Eastern spiritual practices, referred to as dhyāna in Hinduism and Buddhism and which comes from the Sanskrit (an old Indo-Aryan language) root dhyai, meaning to contemplate or meditate. The term “meditation” in English also refers to practices from Islamic Sufism, and other traditions such as Jewish Kabbalah and Christian Mysticism.

What Is Meditation?

Meditation is a practice where an individual uses a technique – such as mindfulness or focusing the mind on a particular object, thought, or activity – to train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state.

It is significant that meditation refers to astate of consciousness.”  That state of consciousness is associated with aligning with your Higher or Supreme Self.  As such meditation brings you to awareness of your spiritual nature and the aspects of your being that are often called your higher self or Soul.

It is significant to note that meditation has roots, as a practice, in every religion spanning every major world religion over thousands of years. Although meditation can be a spiritual practice that is as old as time and spans every religion, it belongs to no particular religion and can be practiced by anyone.  That meditation is a practice is an important distinction.  Ultimately, I believe that meditation is about listening to the wisdom of your Higher Self.

Several other definitions of meditation have been used by researchers on meditation:

US National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (2016): “Meditation is a mind and body practice that has a long history of use for increasing calmness and physical relaxation, improving psychological balance, coping with illness, and enhancing overall health and well-being.”

Walsh & Shapiro (2006): “Meditation refers to a family of self-regulation practices that focus on training attention and awareness in order to bring mental processes under greater voluntary control and thereby foster general mental well-being and development and/or specific capacities such as calm, clarity, and concentration

Cahn & Polich (2006): “Meditation is used to describe practices that self-regulate the body and mind, thereby affecting mental events by engaging a specific attentional set…. regulation of attention is the central commonality across the many divergent methods

Jevning et al. (1992): “We define meditation… as a stylized mental technique… repetitively practiced for the purpose of attaining a subjective experience that is frequently described as very restful, silent, and of heightened alertness, often characterized as blissful

Goleman (1988): “the need for the meditator to retrain his attention, whether through concentration or mindfulness, is the single invariant ingredient in… every meditation system

The Benefits of Meditation

Some studies have found that regular meditation can reduce chronic pain, anxiety, high blood pressure, cholesterol, and the use of health care services.
                           – WebMD

Although meditation has been practiced for thousands of years, the meditative technique called the “relaxation response” was pioneered in the U.S. by Harvard doctor Herbert Benson in the 1970s. The technique has gained acceptance by physicians and therapists worldwide as a means of relieving symptoms of conditions ranging from cancer to AIDS.

When our bodies are exposed to a sudden stress or threat, we respond with a characteristic “fight or flight” response. The ”adrenaline rush” we experience is a result of the release of the hormones epinephrine (adrenaline) and norepinephrine. They cause an increase in blood pressure and pulse rate, faster breathing, and increased blood flow to the muscles.

Using meditation for deep relaxation allows for the opposite bodily reaction from the “fight or flight” response — a state of relaxation in which your breathing, pulse rate, blood pressure, and metabolism are decreased. Training our bodies on a daily basis to achieve this state of deep relaxation can lead to enhanced mood, lower blood pressure, improved digestion, and a reduction of everyday stress.

Even more important, in my mind, is meditation helps you learn to quiet your mind so you can obtain higher states of awareness.

Learning to meditate provides techniques of learning to find the quiet mind so you can ultimately open to the promptings of your Higher Self (or as some call it, your Soul).

Legend tells us a story of the Buddha that speaks to why to meditate that I would like to share with you.  Someone once asked the Buddha skeptically,

What have you gained through meditation.

The Buddha replied, “Nothing at all.

Then, Blessed One, what good is it.

Let me tell you what I lost through meditation: sickness, anger, depression, insecurity, the burden of old age, the fear of death.

Now, the Buddha lived a long time ago, and, like many famous leaders, Shakespeare, Benjamin Franklin, and many others, the quotes used may or may not have ever been said by the one to whom the quote is attributed.  However, I like this quote because it gives an expression of the benefit of meditation.

The relaxation response that is accomplished by meditation works with your physiology, your psychological triggers and helps restore the balance between the dynamic relationship between your mind and your body. The relaxation response integrates your body with your mind, emotions, and also your more spiritual self.

Breath is an integral and essential part of meditation. There are many meditation tools that focus on breath control as a portal to the meditative experience. Likewise, the content of your mind, the nature of your thoughts and the power of your creative mind and imagination can be harnessed to enhance your meditative experience.

What is the Best Meditation Technique or Practice?

Since meditation is a tool that has been taught over a vast array of disciplines and paths, there are many ways to meditate.  In the long run, because your Soul is not directed by belief or dogma, the direction of meditation can be somewhat vague.

Because ultimately, meditation is a way of connecting with and becoming aware of the wisdom and guidance of your Soul, there are not only many ways to meditate, but there is no wrong way to meditate.

Everyone is unique and responds differently to different techniques and therefore can take many roads to gain the guidance of your Soul through meditation. This is why I offer a course “How to Why to Meditate” intermittently that is 4 hours of instruction followed by a short experience in 12 different styles and ways to meditate so you can choose what resonates and works best for you.

Even though I believe there is no one right way to meditate, I have found that the following are some meditative techniques that are the most popular and most effective.

Transcendental MeditationTM

On a February morning in 1967, George Harrison’s wife, Pattie Boyd, sat at her kitchen table and lamented to a girlfriend how she longed for something spiritual in her life. With that, the legendary party girl ripped a tiny newspaper advertisement for Transcendental Meditation classes out of the paper and, in that instant, began a ripple that would affect generations of young people across the world.

A year later, the Beatles would go to India. Out of that trip came not just the band’s epic White Album and Donovan’s ‘Hurdy-Gurdy Man,’ but a seismic shift in the popular understanding of Eastern spirituality, meditation, and music. It also was the beginning of a strange relationship between the Beatles and the meditation movement that they inadvertently popularized.
                                – Rolling Stones

Over 50 years ago, I was first trained in the practice of meditation by a Yogi, Maharishi Mahesh, the founder of an organization that is known as Transcendental MeditationTM.

The TM technique involves the use of a silently-used sound called a mantra and is normally practiced repeatedly for 15–20 minutes twice per day. The Maharishi learned the technique from his master Brahmananda Saraswati that he called Transcendental Deep Meditation and later renamed it Transcendental Meditation.

Since that time, I have practiced varying techniques of meditation daily all over the world.  Now, 50+ years of one’s life to do anything is a long time.  In that very first training and exposure to meditation, I had, in addition to the experience of meditation an understanding and epiphany, that led me to a deep understanding of not only the how, but the why of meditation.

Although the Maharishi’s technique and training in the meditation of Transcendental Meditation were both exotic and very foreign, the experience was familiar.  As I left the initiation meeting, I realized that by meditating, I had gone to a place in my consciousness that I had identified as “prayer beyond words.”

Because meditation is more about a state of being or a state of consciousness, the experience of meditation offered me a portal into awareness.  I resolved that I would commit to the practice of meditation and see what would be revealed from the mystery of meditation and contemplation.

Quieting the Chattering Mind

Although much younger and less experienced on that day over 50+ years ago, I had sought the wisdom and presence of my Soul even as a young child.

What I learned in that very first training in the techniques and tools of meditation is that your Soul is always available when you calm your mind, open your heart, and invite it into your consciousness.  I have also learned that the connection to your Soul only becomes possible when you can transcend the chattering mind of your ego or personality and enter into the silence.  The practice of learning to quiet your mind of the chatter is, among every practice of meditation, paramount.

Another quote often attributed to the Buddha that I think describes well the mind is “like a bunch of drunken monkeys.”  Quieting the mind is not easy and it seems that almost all of the tools and techniques that are taught at most meditation centers on helping one meditate try to accomplish this most important task.

There are many techniques that are taught as meditation.  Done regularly as a practice to listen to and access the wisdom of your own Higher Self (your Soul), all are effective.

Quieting the distraction of what is sometimes among those who meditate called “the monkey mind” is a crucial and for almost everyone who begins to meditate a challenge.  It is a challenge that every technique or school of meditation has developed techniques or tools to overcome.  To open your consciousness to your Soul (Your Higher Self) you begin a journey of mastery over the unbridled chatter of fears.

Within the content of your mind chatter is much of what creates the problems and sorrows that the above quote from the Buddha says meditation freed him from. The peace and power of gaining mastery over your chattering mind through the practice of meditation can have a profound impact on your life.

It affects you on every level of your being, physically by impacting how you respond to stress, emotionally, and mentally.  However, I believe it is how it opens you to the wholeness of your being that is the most empowering and profound.

TM uses a mantra or mantras repeated over and over in the mind, even repetitive chanting often in ancient languages such as Sanskrit (the oldest language known to man), to create seed thoughts as entrees in your meditation.

Wise perspectives of consciousness or guided meditation all serve as a way of shifting your awareness from your random earthly mind chatter to a state of being that is a calmness of mind and openness of heart that brings an awareness of your Higher Self (the Light of your Soul).

For this reason, I use for every guided meditation I offer to the world, both written or recorded the opening phrase: “Calm your mind, open your heart, and invite the Light.  This phrase declares your intention and, in my experience, helps you leave behind your mind chatter and enter into an openness to start to experience your Soul.

I have had those who have told me they use that simple phrase above as a mantra to enter the silent and receptive state of meditation.

Meditating In A Group

After several years of a daily practice of Transcendental Meditation, I began to explore what else I could learn from meditating.  I discovered the writings of Alan Watts who has written more than 25 books and articles on religion and philosophy, introducing the emerging hippie counterculture to The Way of Zen (in 1957), one of the first bestselling books on Buddhism.

The consciousness described in my studies of Zen appealed to me so I found a Zendo and was accepted to meditate with those who practiced Zen meditation, a practice I engaged in early every morning for the next span of my meditative life.

Part of what I learned from that experience is that there is something very empowering about meditating in a group.  Even though there was in the Zendo no social engagement or interaction the unity of purpose to open our consciousness was empowering.  It supported us both individually and collectively.

That special experience explained to me why in the history of meditation people would often live in communities and gather together to meditate.  In the Western world, meditation is most often deprived of the energetic empowerment of meditating as a group.  There is something special that happens energetically when you join in a group to expand your awareness.  The group experience supports you in a way that is both mystical and magical and enhances all who join and engage.

As we have found recently in times of crisis, group meditations can be conducted in today’s world effectively over telephone connections, internet connections, or in-person groups.

If you wish to join with a group meditation experience I would encourage you to pay attention to the identified purpose of the meditation and make sure you are comfortable and willing to be aligned with the stated purpose of the meditation.

Zen Meditation

Zazen is considered the heart of Japanese Sōtō Zen Buddhist practice. The aim of zazen is just sitting, that is, suspending all judgmental thinking and letting words, ideas, images, and thoughts pass by without getting involved in them.

The discipline required of Zen meditation works very effectively to master the distractions of “the chattering mind” by encouraging the student to focus on the “No Thing”, the place in your consciousness that is not, in any way material.

The techniques and discipline required for sitting ZaZen are very different from what Western society seeks.

I am reminded of my very first meeting with the Zen Master of the Zendo where I meditated.  As he explained the tools and techniques of Zen meditation, he told me that in his experience there was only one thing that Westerners needed to transcend to practice Zen meditation and that was the concept of the pursuit of happiness.  Then he left me to ponder upon and meditate upon that.

The Parable of the Cup of Tea - Genevieve Gerard

It is significant to note that throughout the annals of time Zen Masters have used Koans or brief stories upon which a student is encouraged to ponder to reveal a deep truth about consciousness.  In the history of Zen Koans, there are a large variety of Koans that provide “teaching moments.  I have one example published on my website of such a Koan, “The Parable of a Cup of Tea.

The training and experience of my time at the Zendo was, I believe enlightening as it led me, in my consciousness to what was not material and helped open me to experiencing the eternal aspects of my being that are Spiritual.  I am and have been since my time studying at the Zendo extremely grateful to the Zen Master and the group of monks who were my group brethren for how my experience of meditating with them enhanced and empowered my meditative and spiritual life.

Mindfulness Meditation

Mindfulness Meditations are some of my favorite meditations!

According to Wikipedia, “Mindfulness is the psychological process of purposely bringing one’s attention to experiences occurring in the present moment without judgment, which one develops through the practice of meditation and through other training.

Mindfulness derives from sati, a significant element of Buddhist traditions, and is based on Zen, Vipassanā, and Tibetan meditation techniques.

Mindfulness in meditation refers to becoming aware of what is.  Mindfulness in meditation enables you to expand your consciousness.  Expanding your perception is essential as perception influences perspective.  Expanding your perception opens you to awareness of what is beyond the limitations of time or space opening you to what is eternal, the energy of Love, the awareness of Light, and Creative power.

A part of the experience of mindfulness in meditation is a comprehension of Self, and an understanding of yourself in relationship with the world around you, not only others but nature, not only your sentience but the sentience of all of life.
                   – Genevieve Gerard

Mindfulness in meditation is empowering.  It enables you to gain mastery over the challenges of your life by addressing your relationship with the world.

With mindfulness, you can establish yourself in the present in order to touch the wonders of life that are available in that moment.
                  – Thich Nhat Hanh (Zen Master)

I have found that meditation can influence and improve everything.  I am often teased by those who know me that my answer to a myriad of life problems is to say, “I have a meditation for that.

Indeed, I have found meditation is what connects me with Source, grounds me in life, and fills me with Love.  It is for me an always open portal to joy and my Soul.

I have several Mindfulness Meditations that are guided to be incorporated into the activities of daily life that are part of what I call Meditations for Daily Joy.

I have included links to some of these meditations below in my recommended meditations section.

I encourage you to experience meditation fully and open your heart and your mind to the awareness of your Soul.

Mindfulness has been proven to have a myriad of health benefits.  Indeed, there is a great deal of scientific research on the benefits of Mindfulness meditation.

The amazing thing about Mindfulness is that it only requires “being aware of what is” to be effective.  The enhanced awareness of being mindful has a profound impact on empowering you to utilize the world that surrounds you to achieve peace and serenity.  Mindfulness is a portal to joy, which is beyond simple happiness and in that way is both enlightening and empowering.

Rāja Yoga

As in this post, I have shared much about my personal quest to learn how meditation can transform and enhance your life, I would be remiss if I did not mention one other school or technique of meditation that I have found to be of great value.  That is Rāja Yoga, also called the yoga of the mind.

Whereas Mindfulness is an exploration of what is in the material world, and Zen Meditation is an exploration of what is available and open beyond the material world, Rāja Yoga teaches how to transmute, transform, and ultimately transcend issues that limit your possibilities and potential.

Rāja Yoga comes from the teachings of the Ageless Wisdom and finds its roots in the practice of Tibetan Buddhism.

Rāja means “chief, best of its kind” or “king“. Rāja yoga thus refers to “chief, best of yoga“.

Based on historical Sanskrit texts, Rāja yoga was both the goal of yoga and a method of attaining it. The term also became a modern name for the practice of yoga, when in the 19th-century Swami Vivekananda equated raja yoga with the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali (where the Hindu scholar Dattatreya explains in 334 shlokas, principles of four yoga: Mantra yoga, Hatha yoga, Laya yoga, and Raja yoga.)

According to 12th Century Shaiva Yoga text, “Amanaska”, it states that Raja Yoga is so named because it enables the yogin to reach the illustrious king within oneself, the supreme self. Raja yoga is declared as the goal where one experiences nothing but the bliss of the undisturbed, the natural state of calm, serenity, peace, communion within, and contentment.

Just as with salt dissolved in water becomes one with it, so the union of Atman and Manas (mind) is denominated samadhi. When the breath becomes exhausted, and the mind becomes Praliyate (still, reabsorbed), they fuse into a union called samadhi. This equality, this oneness of the two, the living self and the absolute self, when all Sankalpa (desire, cravings) end is called samadhi.

I believe it is interesting to note that meditation is not a religion, but a practice.  And because it is not a religion it does not require belief.  It is just a practice.  It is a practice that focuses upon connecting you with your own Soul nature, the spark of Divine Light that is within each and every human being.

Making this discrimination between meditation and religion is significant.  When you meditate you are invited to explore and experience all aspects of the Divine, directed only by the wisdom of your Soul and what is available and enlightening to your spiritual journey.  As such you can gain insight and mastery over your whole being, physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual.

Your Soul is aligned with every part of the spiritual aspect of life that is included and incorporated into every world religion.  Your Soul is the seat of your consciousness and as such, has access to all that is Divine, The Creator, The Father, The Son (the Christ), The Divine Mother, and the Angels.

You can, in your consciousness boldly explore all that is spiritual and gain both insight and mastery over the aspects of yourself that are physical and therefore enhance healing.  You can also impact and influence the parts of you that are focused emotionally and learn to master the strong influence of your emotions.  Likewise, meditation can empower your mind to influence and transform energy.

This is a key element in the wisdom that “energy follows thought.”  Within that truth is the awareness that whereas you can not destroy energy, you can change its form.  That is a defining principle of the tools and techniques of Raja Yoga.

Changing the form of energy is a central tenant of the evolution of consciousness that is central to all of life and all of the religions practiced by and known to humanity.    The practice of meditation involves the wholeness of your being, a wholeness that is vast and encompassing more than we are aware of.  It is through the practice of meditation in its diversity of tools and techniques that you can increase your awareness on many energetic levels.

I Am Feeling Free Meditation MP3 by Genevieve Gerard

Within the school of Raja Yoga are tools and techniques that enable you to manage energy to gain mastery over your emotions.  Among these are ancient techniques for transmuting negative emotions. Check out my simple but powerful guided meditation called I Am Feeling Free where I have passed on one of these techniques so you can learn how to calm strong emotions and transmute fears and doubts in just moments every day of your life.

Likewise are ways of enhancing and empowering your connection and cooperation with others through the technique of triangles (heart-mind-soul).  My meditations for daily joy guided meditations called Mindful Meeting, Heart of the Family, Flowing Freeway, and On the Wings of a Silver Bird are examples of how to use and experience the powerful technique of energetic triangles.

Guided Meditations

Despite the benefits of meditation, many people feel overwhelmed at the thought of learning how to meditate. This is why all of the meditations I have created, whether they be for Life Skills, Life Awareness, or Life Mastery are “guided meditations“. Guided meditation makes it easier to get started because it takes a lot of the mental legwork away from you.

As the name implies, guided meditation simply allows you to be guided by someone else in one of the techniques of meditation. You just listen to my voice as I take you on a guided journey that I have been on with thousands of people, just like you, many, many times before.

I may help you visualize some specific mental imagery, or I may walk you through a series of breathing exercises or mantras to help you practice meditating in a simple, flowing, step-by-step process. Then, you can concentrate on relaxing, meditating, and getting insight, rather than worry about your technique or your form.

Gift of Love guided meditation by Genevieve Gerard

If you would like to calm and comfort yourself I would suggest my guided meditation called The Gift of Love that helps turn and tune your awareness to Love, especially the Love of your Soul that is offered to you freely without limitation.

What Can I Get Out Of It

All-in-all meditation can help you overcome the life challenges of anger, depression, insecurity, and the fear of death.  Or it can expand your awareness from the temporal to the eternal.  It is a technique that you can use at will as you practice it and disregard unless or until you chose to use it again.

Within the vast array of ways that you can meditate there are a wide breadth of ways to meditate.  You can choose and experiment and explore from the vast collection of techniques without fear when you affirm that your purpose is to open to the insights of your Higher Self (your Soul).

The result you desire can inform your choice of which meditation is best for you at any given specific time or situation in your life. I suggest you explore and experiment at different times and circumstance in your life with different meditations.

You have available a wide variety of tools and techniques that you can apply prescriptively to your life situations and challenges. Do not be afraid to experiment and explore the vast array of tools and techniques that are available. You may want to use different meditations for different purposes in your life. Be brave and bold. Meditation is available to enhance and empower you.

The more you meditate the easier it becomes. With meditation, you are building a bridge in your consciousness between the different parts of yourself that help you gain mastery and wisdom. As you calm your mind, open your heart, and invite the Light you are opening yourself and your world to the opportunity to explore joy, peace, and empowerment beyond your imagination.

The rewards for meditation are ongoing. You can meditate at any time in your life from very young to very old and at each stage of life receive benefits and blessings. You can use meditation to enhance and explore your wisdom and understanding as well as to gain mastery. You can use it to overcome problems and provide both enlightenment and joy. Whatever time you give meditation to whenever you choose to meditate there are positive benefits available for you.

The amazing part of the practice of meditation, no matter which tool or technique you choose is that when you “Calm your mind, and Open Your Heart and Invite the Light” you have invited your Soul to begin enlightening your awareness of more.  How you choose to practice meditation and what you choose to believe are all only steps upon an ongoing journey that is amazing.

I hope I can be a guide on your journey to enlightenment.

You, as a human being are a miraculous merger of matter and spirit.  You are both a physically temporary form and eternal in nature.  That you can have these two very different and diverse aspects of what you identify in your consciousness as yourself is both magical and miraculous.  How much of that truth you choose to explore, and experience is totally within your control for as long as you walk the world in your life.

Bridging Spirit and matter is the experience of human life.  Where that takes you and where that guides you is totally and completely your choice.  Within you as a merging of your personality and your Soul are a myriad of possibilities.  None of them are wrong.

The nature of life and expression of consciousness is that you learn.  You can let that thought comfort you.  You can let that thought reassure you.  You are on a journey that offers you an unlimited number of opportunities to learn and grow and ultimately evolve your consciousness.

Meditation, in whatever form you choose can be a portal to reduce stress or experience your Soul and connect you with your inner wisdom.

Namaste,

   Genevieve Gerard

Do You Need a Prescription of Meditation For Healing?

Do You Need a Prescription of
Meditation For Healing?

Meditation Tonic by Genevieve Gerard

This is part of my on-going series on healing.

Today’s post is a little different than most of my posts. I want to have you explore with me the concept of a Custom Guided Prescriptive Meditation that I have been using with clients one to one.

Throughout the history of meditation, spiritual teachers have recommended a regular practice of meditation.  That frequency is usually once a day or even twice a day.

In all of the stress and challenges of modern life, many people say they don’t have time to meditate.  When people say that to me, I am reminded of the quote:

Meditate daily, but if you think you don’t have time
then meditate twice a day.

I have found that meditation is a practice that can transform your life, heal you, and bring you peace of mind and deep joy, however; it only works if you actually meditate.

To make things more difficult, there are in the world a vast number of styles and techniques of meditation.

Over the 50+ years that I have meditated, I have used many different styles and techniques.  I share a lot of those different ways of meditating in a workshop I call “How To… Why To… Meditate.”

Although there are many ways to meditate, I have recently realized that many people attracted to meditation, especially as it has become popularized in the media, not only do not know how to meditate, they do not understand WHY to meditate.

Meditation is more than just sitting quietly.  Although I would dare say, just stopping and sitting quietly would be a benefit in many lives, meditation is an art founded on the science of the evolution of your consciousness.

Meditation is the portal to your Higher Self, your Soul.  It is your Soul that has the power to heal your life on all levels; physically from the most devastating “dis-eases,” emotionally from the most painful and devastating losses; and it is your Soul that aligns and inspires you with Divine Light and embraces you with Divine Love.
      – Genevieve Gerard

Meditation Can Be Life Changing

I now believe, along with others, with all of my heartthat meditation is an essential element for the evolution of your consciousness.

Meditation is a vital practice to access
conscious contact with your highest self.
      – Wayne Dyer

To not take advantage of the time you may set aside to meditate for that purpose is to minimize the life-changing benefits meditation can have.

And what is amazing and gratifying is that you can experience the benefits of meditating immediately in your life with this regular practice.

That has, in my long experience, been true with a variety of techniques and meditative tools, but when you use meditation to address a particular purposeyour ability to transform your consciousness and health is enhanced.

When that purpose is to relieve stress or limit your experiences of dis-stress, it is especially useful.

Meditation can be used to resolve a myriad of life problems.  I know because I have seen it over and over again. Just look at this Harvard article on mindfulness meditation that has shown the powerful health benefits of meditating.

When you meditate, you are raising the vibratory frequency of your physical body and lowering your standing pulse rate.  That effect may be experienced as profound relaxation.

The sense of relaxation, bliss, and clarity is a common experience.  That alone is a worthy reason to meditate.  Modern medical research shows the health benefits of the relaxation response in meditation.  That single advantage alone provides a significant reason to meditate.

However, meditation can have a more profound impact on your life.  It can help you transform the frequency of specific energies that may have become over-active, or overemphasized especially with your emotions.

Shifting the frequency of your emotional body is a dynamic part of learning to transcend, transform, and transmute your fears and have a powerful impact on your success in all areas of your life.  It is one of the most life-transforming benefits of meditation.

Learning to quiet your mind and master your thoughtscalming what the Buddha referred to as the monkey mind opens your life to greater awareness of the power of your mind as a co-creator in your life.

Meditation focused on improving the power of your mind can alter your life.  Harnessing the dynamic power of your thoughts is a direct result of meditation and has been taught by many thought leaders, motivational teachers, and business coaches.

Meditation can still the emotional turmoil that leads to so much dis-ease and distress in life.  It is a healing power that you can activate in your life that has transforming and dramatic implications on what and how you experience.

Meditation also has physiologic effects that can relieve stress and impact the myriad of illnesses that are the result of dis-stress. Healthy living incorporates meditation.  By meditating you learn the science behind energy transformation.  You can then apply that science to transform any problem area you identify.

In addition to all of these positive aspects of meditation, you can use meditation to expand and increase your spiritual wisdom and integrate your Soul or Higher Self into more of your life if you like.

Perhaps the most dramatic and dynamic advantage to meditation is that through meditation you can align with and access the healing power of your Soul.

Over the many years of my working as a counselor, healer, and life coach I have facilitated people using this healing power of their Soul through creating customized Guided Prescriptive Meditations to activate this healing power of the Soul to address healing in life-threatening dis-eases.

This creation of Prescriptive Meditation is an outgrowth of profoundly individual work.  I offer this healing service worldwide through the technology of Skype or as an adjunct to personal energetic healing sessions one-on-one.

This personalized prescriptive approach to energetic healing provides you, after the end of each one to one session, with a custom highly specialized downloadable guided meditation that works as a medication to what ails you.

This custom healing meditation is created so that you can use it daily until your next scheduled customized healing session.

Each session is unique and builds on the previous session and creates a custom prescription for where you are at and the issues you are dealing with at that exact moment in time.

I have found that this intensely personalized work can be productive with life guidance or life-threatening illnesses, often minimizing the adverse side effects of traditional medical treatment.

The prescriptive meditation treatment can realign your system to work for you by identifying the ways your body, emotion, mind, and Soul have gone out of balance.  Bringing these diverse parts of the wholeness of your being into proper alignment allows natural and gradual healing to take place on multiple levels.

So often the medical approach to dis-ease are medications that are expensive, exotic and have dire side effects, which is why reducing symptoms can also be a primary goal of this meditation method.

Reducing symptoms then may lead to reducing the amount of medication you may require.

How Can Prescriptive Meditations Work?

Prescriptive meditations can work with and alongside not only the traditional medical professional but also all allied health professionals.

Using meditation to heal your life involves healing the issues on both atomic and often even sub-atomic levels.  It is using the science of meditation to adjust and transform energy into a subtle balance and positive coefficient.

This use of meditation can allow spirit to impact matter, powerfully.  However, as I mentioned in the beginning, it requires discipline and regularity.  To transform the substance of matter requires working within several universal laws and principles that govern life that involve principles of Physics and mostly Quantum Physics that the world of science has recently revealed.

One of these underlying principles is that “energy follows thought.”  Thought and intention activate your co-creator abilities, that spark of Divine Light housed in your Soul.  It is the spark of Divine Light that I believe separates man from animal.  That spark of Divinity is what is celebrated when, across the world, people greet one another with the ancient greeting of Namaste (I salute the divinity within you.)

Another underlying principle from the science of physics is that you can never destroy energy, but you can change its form.  That is the principle used to transmute energy in healing with meditation.

However, shifting and transforming the form of energy, while the most advanced and esoteric aspect of both healing and meditation, require regularity of the practice of meditation.

The movement of energy needed for transformation requires the subtle and regular application, much like a particular dose of medication.

The most ancient teachings I have found on the subject indicate that these life-changing advantages of meditation, especially when doing healing, state that a frequency cycle of daily (at least once in 24 hours) is most effective.

The most ancient wisdom schools recommend daily meditation.  It is throughout the writings of the Ageless Wisdom.  Daily meditation is an essential element of the practice of Raja Yoga, the yoga of the mind.

What I have learned in a lifetime of guiding and helping people heal on all levels, is that meditation can be used as a medicine, much like a tonic, which when practiced daily can help, heal, clarify, and empower your life.

How I Can Help You?

Over the years I have created a variety of general meditations to help, heal, and empower you and I invite you to explore meditation as the dynamic tool that it is.

I am also available to create highly custom prescriptive healing meditations to a limited number of individuals on a personalized basis to facilitate and activate transformation and healing.  If you have such a need, please contact me.

I would also love any positive feedback you might offer on the idea of a highly custom prescriptive healing meditation.

If you are not ready to have a custom prescriptive meditation created for you then at least check out my other self-healing posts and my recommended healing meditation (below) that may help you at this time.

Namaste,

A MEDITATION OF REMEMBERING

Check out my article on “Opening Your Heart To Your Childhood Angelic Message” that I wrote to go with this meditation.

A MEDITATION OF REMEMBERING

As always to begin, calm your mind, open your heart, invite the light.

Sit quietly with your spine aligned, let your energy center as you bring your awareness to a place of peace.

Although you are opening to remembering a childhood event, come into the present.  Let the past fade away.  Firmly relegate the past to the past.  That was then, and this is now.

Release any feelings that may accompany the reactions others had if you shared your experience.  Free yourself from external judgments and influences.

Take a deep breath as you are calming and centering your energies.  As you do so, forgive yourself.  Let go of any blame or self-judgement.

Forgive those who may not have supported you in the way that you needed in your childhood.

You are here now.  You are now open and receptive.  The past has no power over you.  Right now you can expand your awareness to hear the message that the Angels bring to help and guide you in your life.

As you draw in your breath, draw in the Divine energies of grace and forgiveness.

As you exhale, release all of the negative “should” thoughts you may be having, imagining them moving away on the breath until they disappear.

You may wish just to sit quietly breathing while your energy calms and centers.  You can do this as long as you like being gentle with yourself, letting yourself come to the point of calm and a place of peace.

Release and forgive with the exhale of each breath anyone who may have encouraged you to forget these childhood moments you are now endeavoring to recall.  Let the past be in the past.

Surrender into the safety of being right here and right now.

Now, draw in a really deep and relaxing breath, drawing the air to the very bottom of your lungs as you expand your diaphragm to draw in more of the vitality of the breath.

Continue to draw in your breath until you have filled your lungs all the way to the upper lobes of the lungs.

Hold your breath briefly and consider that as you release your breath, you are also releasing anything that could interfere with you receiving the guidance and clarity that is available to you today in this meditation.

Pause and be receptive in the stillness to the quiet promptings of your heart.  In the silence open your mind and heart.  Listen.

With your heart and mind open, remember the time of innocence when the whole of your life lay before you were naive and unformed.  Then, let any memories that are hidden emerge.

Take this time to recapture your childhood experience and bring it to your conscious recall, open your heart and mind as a child.

If no memories appear, take a moment to imagine a connection to your Guardian Angel on a thread of Light and open your mind to receive any guidance and clarity that may be available for you today.

You may wish to visualize a bridge from the top of your head to a golden radiating Light that represents your Soul.  Then, with your mind calm and your heart open be receptive to whatever awareness of the spiritual realm that is available to you today to guide and empower you on your life’s journey to help align you with your life’s purpose.

Remain in this meditative focus for as long as feels right for you and record in your journal any thoughts, impressions and memories that may come to you.

Stay in the peaceful nurturing calm and grace of meditation.  Let your heart be filled with the unconditional love that accompanies an Angel’s presence.

Be open and receptive without judgment or expectation.  Let what comes to you flow to you spontaneously.  You can consider and evaluate it later.  Right now just be receptive and open.

When you feel you have completed the meditation, take the time to record your impressions.  You can ponder on them either now or later.

Last express your gratitude to your Angel for the gift of guidance that you have received. If not now, then shortly.

Namaste,

Genevieve

Breathe for Healing and Harmony

Breathe for Healing and Harmony:

A Meditative Experiential Article

Read Breathe for Healing and Harmony: A Meditative Experiential Article by Genevieve Gerard

Part of my ongoing
series on Healing.

Breathing is essential to maintain life.  A guided or controlled breath is often one of the best techniques used in meditation.

Breath is both a physical action and an energetic act.  Prana, life energy is available through the breath.

Follow me now as we enter a meditative experiential article about using breath for healing and harmony.

This meditation will unify your mind, your heart and your body with your Soul to heal you.  To begin this meditation, I invite you to Calm Your Mind, Open Your Heart and Invite the Light. Now take a deep breath.

When using breath in healing, there are several purposes of the breath: Clearing your energy field and relaxing your body and releasing emotionally any fears and anxieties of which you are aware.

This breathing exercise becomes a meditation through your intentions.  Be receptive and aware as you peacefully and calmly just breathe.

As you read this meditation, let your breath move throughout your body, aware that prana, life energy surrounds you.

Begin by sitting quietly and receptively and let yourself relax.  As you relax, let your mind calm as you observe your breath.  Make no attempt to control your breathing; just follow the natural rise and fall of each breath.

As you breathe in the air that is essential to maintain and sustain your life force, let your awareness that this gift is freely available to the full extent of your need.

Draw in as much air as your lungs can hold, expanding your lung capacity by relaxing your solar plexus as you drop your diaphragm.

Then as you draw in your breath, as it moves up your body, let your energy move with the Prana (Life Force) you are breathing in.

Become aware that you are the one who is breathing in, and you are the one who is breathing out.  Let this awareness happen naturally and spontaneously requiring no conscious thought or consideration.

By bringing your awareness to the simple act of breathing you can expand your consciousness.  You may become aware of the symbiosis and cooperative dynamic of all of life.  The oxygen you freely partake of has been created by the trees and plants and verdant life that surround you.  It sustains you.  Your very act of breathing produces the carbon dioxide that the trees and plants require maintaining their life cycle.  There is deep magic in this cooperative and co-dependency of life.

As you observe that natural rise and fall of your breath, you can be a detached observer letting your mind calm, and your body relax.  As you just sit quietly receptively observe the rise and fall of your chest and your belly as you breathe in the vital life force of Prana, which is all around you and freely available to you.

As you continue to relax, breathing and observing the natural ebb and flow of the air that you breathe, you might notice the coolness of the breath as you breathe in or the warmth of your breath as you breathe out.

You might notice that this breathing process happens both naturally and spontaneously without requiring any thought or action on your part.

All that you need to do is Be, right here and right now.  As you just sit quietly and receptively and breathe, let the vital life force fill you, relax you and restore you.  This gift is available to you freely and spontaneously.  It is a gift you can use for your healing.   It is available to you now and always available as a vital force for your life and living.

To enhance and expand the healing power of your breath engage the healing power of your mind and the healing power of your higher source, your Soul.  You can invoke your higher source through the loving power of your Soul.  Just open your whole being to the Light of your Soul by imagining your Soul as a radiating golden white Light 3-to-6 feet above your physical body.

The Light of the Soul Descends
Soul Light Descending

Upon observing the Light of your Soul, recognize its Presence as a part of who and what you are.  As a human being, you are miraculously composed of a physical body, although you are more than your physical body.  You have a creative and dynamic mind which you can use to focus your powerful capacity for thought.  Your heart is a spark of the force of Divine love. You are a Soul that is a unified part of the Divine Creative Source for all of life.

As you breathe in a full and relaxing breath, let these energies merge and blend to manifest as the healing Presence and the Healing Power that they are.

Use intention, visualization and invocation to invite this healing into your life through the air that you are breathing.

With your breath consciously consider that as you draw in this breath you can infuse the air with the dynamic healing power of Prana to rebuild, refresh and restore your body.

Let the very air that you breathe be filled with the healing Light of your Soul and the generous grace of God.  As the air fills your lungs realize that it has in it the atomic substance of your Soul. The creative power of Divine Light is now offered to you and available.  You can now heal your life on all levels, physical, emotional, and mental through your spiritual unity and integration.

Recognize that the air that you breathe now is infused with the atoms empowered by the Healing Presence of your Soul and the loving grace of the Divine.  The particles that make up the air that you breathe have been a part of earth’s atmosphere since the beginning of earth’s cycle of time.  The atoms that compose the air you call upon to serve your life were in their life used by every Avatar and Holy One, whoever walked the earth.

Let the miracle of the ancient ones Healing Presence enter your body as a demonstration of grace.

Through the power of your breath, you can be touched by the body of Christ as a manifestation of his healing Presence in the world.

As air moves from your lungs into your circulatory system by the agency of blood, it travels and touches every molecule of your body, every organ in your body, as a force of Prana. As it moves through you, in and around you atomically and molecularly it is healing you, balancing you and infusing you for a full expression of health.  This healing is available so that you can move forward from this meditation to fulfill your purpose and do your work in the world.

As your breath circulates through your body and into your circulatory system, visualize every part of your being align with your Soul Light.  As you release each breath, you can release your stress.  You can let go of emotions that no longer serve you.

You can be peaceful and calm.  You can come into the unique gift of this moment of time, choosing to free your body, your mind and your emotions from thoughts, feelings, and fears that have held you back or limited your expression.

Continue to sit quietly and receptively as you ponder and consider the atomic restoration that is available.  As with the air, healing atoms circulate through the blood through all of your organs balancing, healing and helping them be restored to complete function and health.

As the breath flows through your heart, imagine it infused with love. Let your breath send the energy on to draw out any toxins from which your body needs purifying.  The circulation continues to carry through the cleansing and purifying organs of your liver, spleen, kidneys, and colon. The atoms are infused and charged with Soul Light, Love and Divine Grace with power.

Allow the circulation that occurs both naturally and spontaneously with your breath to be a miracle of healing as you continue to breathe. You are quietly aligning with and infusing the wholeness of your being.  This gift is provided for your healing, for your happiness and vitality.

Before you return to your activities, pause and just let yourself breathe in and out deeply one more time, as you let the breath be a healing force in your life

As you just breathe and relax into the powerful potential to heal your body, your emotions and your mind, realize that you can release anything that is not harmonious and balanced.  With another breath, draw in life Prana and Life energy to fill, heal, restore, balance and transform you.

Give thanks for this great blessing of healing that your meditation has created while you paused in your life to “just” breathe.

I recommend that when you do this Breathing Meditation that you follow it by sitting quietly and receptively and record the impressions and thoughts you have received.

Namaste,

Be Receptive To the Guidance of Your Soul

Be Receptive To the Guidance of Your Soul

– Connecting with Your Higher Self for Life Advice

Read Be Receptive To the Guidance of Your Soul blog post by Genevieve Gerard

Recently in a discussion with one of my coaching clients, we explored how to access the guidance and wisdom of your Soul for practical advice.

She was seeking revelation about the life challenges she was currently facing. She thought to receive this kind of clear information was the practical application of spirituality. My client insisted this desire is the reason that spirituality has relevance.

This conversation made me consider her point of view. Particularly, I wondered, what can you do to enhance and empower receiving guidance and direction from your Higher Self? Of equal importance, is the question what can interfere with receiving Soul guidance in your life? That led me to consider the process of receiving guidance and direction from your Soul as a practical real-life issue.

I believe your Soul is not only a part of you but it also a partner in your life. It has a vested interest in helping you learn and grow. However, from the perspective of your personality, the way that it provides the situations and circumstances from which you learn and grow are often not what you want. It is not always clear what is right or best to do.

You learn and grow in so many different ways. This issue seems to need some clarification. In my many years of life coaching, I have led individuals through many meditations in which they reached their Soul for guidance. There are some patterns I have observed. What is most revealing is how much of the preparation for the meditation is just a litany of what the seeker wants or more importantly what they don’t want.

I find it significant that often the answer that emerges as received in meditation is just a repetition of their hopes and desires that were expressed while preparing to meditate. That seems to be a clear signal that it is not the direction of the Soul they received, but rather their desires and their attachments speaking. In considering this result, I am reminded of the words of My Fair Lady, “she’ll listen very nicely then go out and do precisely what she wants.” It is all too easy to project your attachment and desire and then, because you meditated, assume that you have contacted and listened to the wisdom of your Soul.

Not only is this true but in the process of having asked for guidance, it is easy to have the expectation that your Soul is now responsible for what happens. The logical conclusion of this “magical thinking” is that the role of the Soul is to be a kind of “Fairy God Mother” who manipulates the world of matter to make your life easier and more compatible with your desires. I believe this is simply not true.

You can see this kind of “magical thinking” all over the internet and especially on Facebook with the number of abundance posts in which you are asked to type “Yes” to a positive meme graphic about prosperity or miracles. The implication is that by simply typing “Yes” you need only to sit back and receptively wait for the miracle you desire to happen.

This kind of “magical thinking” is a misunderstanding of the Law of Abundance and the principle that “energy follows thought.” It is no wonder that people become discouraged and confused.

What is missing in this kind of “magical thinking” is the role and responsibility of the personality. Whereas it is true that “energy follows thought” it is important to understand that this vital principle is not something you just turn on when you type “Yes” or “Amen” in response to a photo with an inspirational statement; then turn off all of the other thoughts in your mind.

What you do makes a difference. Your dreams, your thoughts, your plans and your goals are all an integral part of success.

Cherish your visions and your dreams, as they are the children of your soul, the blueprints of your ultimate achievements.
           – Napoleon Hill

Indeed, meditation helps you to harness the power of your mind. Likewise, the Law of Attraction is activated and enhanced by all of the “Positive Mental Attitude” techniques you may use and employ. However, if you do these things only intermittently; that is exactly how they will work, intermittently.

If you ask, affirm or pray for abundance because you are afraid, you are using these principles to fuel the manifestation of what you fear. This is true even when you pray if what is in your mind while you are praying is fear. Worrying, I have often said, is like praying for what you don’t want. Saying a prayer in desperation without surrendering to Divine Will is an attempt to manipulate God. I don’t think that is how it works.

Likewise, typing “yes” for abundance while thinking about your fears and what is lacking in your life sends a mixed message. That mixed message is most often what you most often see manifesting in your life.

Asking For Guidance

This same principle is involved when you ask for guidance from your Higher Self. You have to stop your negative thoughts, your fear, and your worries. Otherwise, your personality will create from its litany of your concerns what you don’t want. You will not be able to hear anything at all from your Higher Self. Your mind chatter drowns out the still soft prompting of the voice of your Soul. To open yourself to the wisdom and guidance of your Soul or God in prayer requires surrender and a willingness to receive direction and guidance that may be very different from what you want.

To become more aware of how your fears and worries are controlling your unconscious requests is important. The power of your mind automatically responds to all of your thoughts. It responds to your wishes, and it responds to your fears. “The Law of Attraction” and the principle that “energy follows thought” do not have a shut-off valve. It is on 24-7.

That energy follows your thought works with every positive affirmation. It also works with every meditation of intention. However, it also engages with every fear and worry that crosses your mind. Therefore, it is important to understand that what you are thinking is constantly creating what is manifesting in your life.

For this reason, it is crucial for you to be aware of your thoughts and value and respect the co-creative power that they have.

Meditation is a powerful tool to help you use your mind to live the life you desire by gaining mastery over your mind. To help you increase your awareness of what you are asking the universe to provide, I recommend that you do a technique I call the “detached observer.” If you follow my work and my writings you that will note that this is not the first time that I have recommended this technique. This technique is not a meditation but what I call a meditative technique.

Detached Observer Technique

One technique that I have found valuable in my own practice and in my years of coaching and counseling people is that you begin just by self-observation.

I recommend starting with committing just 3 minutes a day to consciously observe your thoughts. When you observe a negative or fear-based thought flash through your mind, edit it, correct it and replace it with a conscious thought of what you want and are striving to manifest in your life.

This self-observation, edit, correct (with intention) and replace technique is most important and empowering when what crosses your mind is a fear. To do this consciously and with intention is best achieved in a meditative state while aligning with your Higher Self and focusing on your life’s purpose. In this alignment, you have a greater vision.

This technique is best done free of self-judgment or criticism (each of which works against achieving positive thoughts to replace the negative and fear-based chatter of the “Monkey Mind.”)

I refer to this as a meditative state because it is not really meditation, but as you are seeking to consciously align with your Soul and your Soul purpose in life you are in a higher state of consciousness and keener awareness than just thinking. So this exercise of observation from the perspective of the “detached observer” is a bridge between normal uncontrolled and casual thinking and meditation.

This can be a powerful and transforming technique. As I mentioned I recommend starting with this technique 3 minutes every day. That may seem very short but if you really consider and catch most of your negative thoughts to edit, and revise and replace the thought, you will have made a huge step forward in your ability to harness the power of your mind and learn to quiet the chattering mind. This simple (although sometimes not easy) step is important in learning to meditate and to empower your life.

In teaching this technique to my coaching clients, most have observed that a daily practice of this technique begins major transformation in their lives.

I suggest that you start out using this method for 3 minutes a day for 30 days. Three minutes of your day is not very much. However, three minutes is enough to demonstrate my point. Three minutes is sufficient to describe the energy you are sending out.

Harnessing the power of your thoughts and making them serve you, while very simple is not always easy. Your mind functions in a multilevel way with ideas so rapid and diverse it is like catching quicksilver.

Throughout the eons of teaching meditation, helping the student gain control of what is often called “The Monkey Mind” or the “Chattering Mind” has been the goal.

In fact, the extended periods of meditating on the ‘no thing,’ ‘the void,’ ‘the sound of one hand clapping’ and other techniques that I learned in my early days of meditation, all seemed to be focused on learning to quiet your chattering mind.

Likewise, mantras repeated serve the same purpose. Similarly, the repetitive phrases of awareness that are taught in mindfulness meditations serve the same goal; they teach you to focus your thoughts and wrestle control from the chatter. Using guided meditations serve the same purpose. They are certainly easier than focusing on the “no-thing” or “the void.”

ATS Affirmations For Abundance CD-MP3 by Genevieve Gerard

Check out my Awaken to Success CD or MP3’s, which give you 21 positive affirmations for abundance. Use these to empower yourself to create the life of your dreams.

All are techniques to focus your thoughts in the desired direction you choose for your consciousness. Guided meditations are an effective and efficient way to harness the power of your mind to help you create the life and experiences you desire. Focusing on a problem with a focused intention on a daily basis can be transforming. The issue of regularity and repetition are key elements in using meditation to change your life.

Daily meditation need not be an arduous process. Moreover, although in my early days of meditating I was instructed to meditate for 30 minutes to an hour daily, I have found over the last 48 years that daily meditation consistently applied with intention is more important than the time spent.

When I create a guided meditation experience, I strive to capture the essence of the subject that I focus on in a 10 to 20-minute session. In meditation, it is quality rather than quality that counts.

The process of quieting your mind chatter enables you to receive the still prompting guidance of your Higher Self. Likewise, to be receptive to the wisdom of your Soul, it is important to cease your attachment to what you desire or expect in order to open your heart and your mind. Ponder on this.

This dual process of quieting your mind as much as possible and surrendering your personal will and desires to be receptive to the guidance you are receiving are crucial steps in receiving advice from your Higher Self.

We must let go of the life we have planned,
so as to accept the one that is waiting for us.
           – Joseph Campbell

I also recommend that if you are seeking the wisdom and direction of your Soul in your life that you set aside at least 10 minutes a day, regularly to meditate on that very subject. Then apply the technique of the detached observer by revising and reframing every negative thought, aligning it with what you feel your Higher Self is directing you to. Do these meditations with as much of an attitude of surrender to Divine Will as you are able.

I further recommend that you follow your “asking” time with a reflective and receptive time that you write in a spiritual journal. This combination of meditation and journal entry will increase the effectiveness of your request.

You Higher Self, your Soul, is available to you. When you can quiet your desires, your fears and listen to your Souls wisdom and guidance, it becomes a partner on your life journey, and your life journey becomes your spiritual journey.

Namaste,
Genevieve

Meditation on Angelic Presence

Meditation on Angelic Presence

Read about The Angel of Perpetual Joy by Genevieve Gerard

To invite angelic presences through meditation, I encourage you to enter into a receptive and meditative state.  To prepare for receiving her angelic presence, I advise you to have at hand your journal to record the thoughts and impressions you receive.

There is great power in knowing the name of the Angel whose energy you wish to invoke.  As you call upon her, you are issuing an invitation.

Consciously invoke and invite your Soul to be your guide.

To enter into this meditative experience suspend all judgment as you:

Calm your mind, open your heart, and invite the light.

Listen into the silence with your inner ear.  Open your heart to the presence of Divine Love as it fills you and sustains you.

Align with the Light of your Soul.

Identify with the Light, Love and Power of your Soul by affirming:

I am my Soul, I am One with my Soul.

Then invite into your conscious awareness the healing power, loving presence and transforming joy of the Angel whose blessing you need.

The Light of the Soul Descends
Soul Light Descending

Imagine your Soul in the realm of Angels as a radiating golden light 3-to-6 feet above your head.

See your chakras open and receptive from the top of your head (your crown chakra.)

Integrating your crown chakra with your Ajna center and the Alta Major center located at the top of your spine.

Then, using your imagination and your intention visualize this energy of light and love and power moving down your central energy channel (2-3 inches) behind your physical spine.

As the energy descends like a golden substance through all of your chakras, it attunes and aligns them for health and vitality.

You may become aware of a significant expansion of your heart energy.

You may feel a calming and balancing in your solar plexus.

Let this healing energy descend through your sacral center balancing as it descends to the base of your spine, your root chakra.

Breathing quietly and calmly letting this energy circulate and then rise and return to the point of light 3-to-6 feet above your head that represents the light of your Soul.

Let the energy circulate freely under the direction of your Soul and the guidance of The Spirit of Perpetual Joy (or whichever angelic presence you have invoked.)

Sense the Angel and identify with it.  Let its love and joy flow over you.

When the energy circulation feels complete, sit quietly and receptively, pondering and recording the impressions you have received.

Using Meditation to Unite You With Your Soul

Using Meditation to Unite You With Your Soul

Read "Using Meditation to Unite You With Your Soul" article by Genevieve Gerard

Perhaps the most incredible and inspiring experience you can have in meditation is to connect with your Soul.

When you connect with your Soul, also known as your Higher Self, you become aware of a part of yourself that is so glorious and magnificent that just experiencing it is often healing, transformational and profound. To me, it is the greatest gift of meditation.

An important factor in any meditation is how the regular practice of meditation actually makes it increasingly easier to meditate. It is more than the old adage, “practice makes perfect.”

Each time that you consciously and with intention connect to your Higher Self (your Soul), you are reinforcing and building a pathway to ease your passage. In the Ageless Wisdom, this is often called the rainbow bridge.

Let us dream of tomorrow where we can truly love from the soul, and know love as the ultimate truth at the heart of all creation.
            – Michael Jackson

Whenever you call upon the Light of your Soul for inspiration or guidance you are building a bridge in consciousness from your personality to your Soul, your Higher Self.

You are connecting to and making the wisdom of your Soul available to you. This enables you to expand your awareness and perspective to a much greater understanding of who and what you are and a much deeper understanding of the meaning and purpose of your life. This pathway in consciousness strengthens with each journey you take along that path.

When you meditate regularly and invoke and invite the presence of your Soul to be an active and incorporated part of your life, you are expanding your world to have a greater scope than you may have believed possible.

The nature and essence of your Soul is love, so increasing and inviting Soul connection into your life expands your experience of love and increases your ability to love.

Amazingly, this Soul communication can also be experienced by your conscious mind, as a healing power in your physical body and as a sense of emotional peace and calm.

This is one of the most profound benefits of calling on your Soul in meditation. Awareness of the connection and interconnection of all of life, and especially a sense of oneness, with others and nature, is a frequent result. This expanded awareness is often accompanied by feelings of unity and purpose. It often fills you with a very deep joy.

Each time you meditate, I recommend that you focus your attention on aligning your whole being and all of your energies. As you do that with intention, you are consciously creating an energetic pathway to integrate your physical body, with your emotional body and your mental body with your personality; and then, raise that energy connection to you Higher Self, your Soul.

This energetic pathway forms etheric substance that is known as the Antahkarana in the Ageless Wisdom. This is known as the Rainbow Bridge and the conscious building and reinforcing of that pathway through meditation, especially through daily meditation, eventually provides support in the meditation experience and allows more conscious awareness of the presence of your Soul.

This formation of energetic substance to empower and support you in your meditative endeavors is significant in understanding why it is easier to meditate daily than at random times in your life. This is a part of the secret and science of meditation. Ponder on this!

The regular endeavor (I recommend daily) of meditation is more than just forming a habit. It is building a support system to enhance the power and breadth of the integration of your Soul within your life.

This is ultimately one of the main benefits of meditation. It allows you to increase the integration of your Higher Self with your personality, body, mind and Soul. This integration enhances your success and improves your overall wellbeing. Meditation, partially because of the creation of the etheric connection of the Higher Self with your personality, then becomes a valuable tool to help you overcome many of life’s challenges.

Every time you meditate, especially when you do it consciously and with an intention to connect with your Higher Self, you are reinforcing and strengthening this connection.

This supportive pathway in your consciousness is particularly useful in helping you transcend, transmute, and transform the tyranny that fear, anger, and emotion can exert over your life.

Fear is perhaps the most limiting and confining challenge in life. Yet, this principle of building the energetic rainbow bridge is the explanation why techniques such as myFeeling FreeorI Am Feeling Freemeditations are so effective.

Imagine if your anger were able to dissolve spontaneously upon expression.

Through the practice of meditation, especially a meditation with the intention to connect with your Soul, you can direct the Light of the Soul to the challenges of your physical desires and needs. You can clear your emotional body with that Light and thus bringing healing. You can receive insights and enlightened awareness in your mind that can be incorporated into a deeper understanding of life.

The full nature of the glory and power of your Soul is vast. Your conscious mind is limited and most likely only perceives but a glimmer of its true nature, and yet that glimmer begins the pathway in consciousness to a thread of awareness that builds and grows.

Through the ongoing and regular practice of meditation, your personality becomes increasingly integrated with the wholeness of your being and is swayed less by your physical or emotional desires.

Meditation, especially when used to expand your awareness and understanding of your Soul, can be even more significant than the health benefits of being calm or centered. It is an adventure in consciousness and a quest for freedom. It provides a portal to a profound and powerful peace and a resounding joy that impacts everything in your life.

Meditation is a tool that can be used to address most life challenges and situations. I have used it in this way in my life and for the benefit of those I have coached and counseled over the years. By using meditation to connect with the wisdom, love, grace, and forgiveness of your Soul there is no dark corner in your life that cannot benefit from shinning the Light of your Soul on it. This is the underlying principle in every guided meditation I have created.

It is no surprise that my answer when presented with a problem in my life, or in the life of others, is “I have a meditation for that.”

Meditation can empower and enhance your life. It is something that you can use wherever you are, with whatever time you have available. Although it is enhanced by a regular practice and discipline, it can benefit your life each time that you do it. Ultimately, there is no wrong way to meditate.

Using a guided meditation is often easier, and there are many available by me or a myriad of other teachers. You can experiment and try different experiences. You can learn from these and create your own meditations. Trust your innate wisdom to direct you to what works for you.

Like a path frequently traveled becomes clear and well-marked in the forest, so too does the path to your Soul become more clearly marked in your consciousness.
            – Genevieve Gerard

I have found in a life marked by many years of meditation that it becomes so reinforcing that I could not imagine not meditating. In my life, it has become the source for so much of my strength and so much of my joy that I am compelled to share and offer it to you.

I invite you to use meditation to unite with your Soul and experience true joy and insight daily.

Namaste,

A Mindful Breath

A Mindful Breath

Read "A Mindful Breath" by Genevieve Gerard

Breath has long been used by those who teach meditation as a portal into consciousness.

Breath integrates your mind-body relationship by helping you to release stress and calm your mind while working with your natural physiology to relax.

To use your breath mindfully and consciously can be a powerful way to empower your life.

Every breath we take, every step we make can be filled with peace, joy, and serenity.
              Thich Nhat Hanh

Today, I will lead you through the technique of mindful breathing. As you sit, you can use this technique as a little consciousness shift in the midst of your day.

You can use this mindful breathing exercise as often as you like, and do it as often as you need. The awareness and stress release it brings will be effective almost immediately.

This technique only involves breathing, which certainly you do all of the time. However, I take this technique one step further to increase your consciousness and your awareness by breathing mindfully.

I suggest that to experience a mindful breath most effectively that you, as much as you are able, set aside 5 minutes or so without distractions or interruptions. If possible mute your phone. If you can, close your door and ask your co-workers or family to give you a few undisturbed minutes.

Let yourself calm your mind and open your heart as you do this simple mindful breath meditation.

To quiet the mind of meaningless chatter, to calm the emotions to peaceful repose and then to receive the Transcendent Love of the Soul is the joy of meditation that is available anytime, anywhere you are, once you learn how to meditate daily.
              – Genevieve Gerard

A Mindful Breath Meditation

To begin, sit up straight, with your spine vertically aligned.

Along your spine, about 2-3 inches behind your physical spine, are energy centers that are called chakras. As you align your physical spine imagine that all of your energy is also aligned.

You might be aware of the sense of being in alignment that results from aligning your spine.

Place your feet on the floor. This helps you relax. It also helps you ground your energy and be mindful of the connection to the flow of the earth’s energy.

Consciously and with intention, let your energy gently come to center in your heart.

Take a deeply relaxing and centering breath and as you do so consciously enter into this present moment. Let the past go into the past where it truly is. Bring your awareness into the NOW. You are right here, right now. It is right now, right here.

Begin, by inhaling another really deep breath, bringing the air in through your nose. Relax your diaphragm and let the mindful breath begin energetically at your solar plexus chakra.

Then, bring the air into your chest and as you do this consciously open the energy of your heart to expand and open.

Then bring the breath into your lungs, all the way to the top of your lungs, letting your lungs expand and letting your whole being expand. Bring the breath in; filling your lungs as fully as you are able, bringing the air into the upper lung until it is just below your shoulders.

When you have filled your lungs as fully as you are able, release the breath through your mouth until you have released all of the air.

This is a relaxing breath. You might already be mindful of how much more relaxed and at peace you feel, having fully experienced a full breath.

With the release of the breath, you can also release any tension or anxiety you may have been holding.

Let your breathing return to normal.

As you breathe normally, be mindful that you are the one breathing in and you are the one breathing out.

Be aware that your body has the wisdom to take in with every breath exactly what you need and to let go of what no longer serves you.

Before you take another deep and relaxing breath, come consciously into the present. Again, consciously put the past behind you and relax. As you pause, appreciate the magnificent power and unlimited potential that is available to you, right here and right now.

When you affirm that the past is truly now behind you, realize that it has no further power over you, or influence over you, except what you choose to give it.

What will be the future is just beginning to be created, as you let yourself relax and reside in the peace and the presence of the eternal NOW.

It is in the eternal NOW that your Higher Self resides. This moment, this peace, this presence is available to you. It responds to your invocation and invitation.

When you are ready, begin to draw in another deep relaxing and healing breath, in through your nose starting at your diaphragm, through your solar plexus. Let the breath clear away any tension or stress you are holding there. As you bring the breath into your chest to your heart chakra, let your heart fill with love as you open your heart to receive love in and give love out.

Then bring the breath to the top of your lungs, drawing in as much air as you can hold.

Then as you release this breath, through your mouth, it may form a sound like a sigh as you let go of any stress or concerns and let yourself relax, releasing with the breath any tension or anxiety you may have been holding, letting it completely drift away.

Observe and be mindful of what you are feeling and experiencing.

Observe that you are the one breathing in and breathing out. You are the one who is experiencing the whole cycle of your breath. Know that you can choose to breathe with control or naturally.

Now, breathe naturally not attempting to control your breath, allowing your breath to direct how much you bring in and how much you let go of that you no longer need. You might notice a calm and peace filling you at this time. You might be aware that you are more present and aware.

Remember, having consciously released the past you have opened to the profound peace and potential of the eternal now. You are now open to the possibility of creating a new future that incorporates more of your purpose in life and fulfills your heart’s desire.

While taking one more really deep relaxing and filling breath with intention, invoke and invite the Presence of your Higher Self.

Imagine a golden Light coming from your Higher Self, infusing the air you are breathing in deeply.

Let this Light circulate through your whole being with your breath through your solar plexus. Let it calm you, releasing your fears and frustrations with its healing Light.

As the breath circulates from your lungs to your heart and from your heart throughout every atom of your body, the healing light balances you, restores and refreshes you.

As it moves from your lungs to your heart and throughout your whole physical body and energy body, accept the healing power and the profound love into your conscious awareness, into your heart and mind.

As you exhale, breathe out and release any negative thoughts or fears.

With each exhale, release any limiting beliefs that keep you from expressing the magnificent and full being that you truly are.

Now sit in silence and receptivity. Use this interlude to listen for the still prompting of your Higher Self.

In this pause you can offer up any issue or concern on which you would like greater insight or understanding from the guidance of your Higher Self.

Let your breathing return to natural. Bring your attention and awareness back to your physical body.

Observe the background sounds that surround you. Become aware of the smells, the quality of the light, and observe how you feel. Let your mind return to this present moment.

You might notice how much more relaxed and centered you feel. You might feel more empowered and aligned in your being.

To finish up, give gratitude to your Higher Self for any insights and clarity you may have received in this mindful breath meditation.

               – GG

I invite and encourage you to practice this mindful breathing meditation often and let your body and mind relax and your heart be comforted.

Mystery of Eternity – Magic of the Soul

The Mystery of Eternity – The Magic of the Soul

Read The Mystery of Eternity - The Magic of the Soul by Genevieve Gerard

There is no deeper conflict in the human experience than the profound knowledge that you are, on some level of your very essence, an eternal being.

Contrast that with the stark confrontation that we all know that we will experience a physical death.

This conflict is the seat of most fear. It is often unexpressed, yet it colors and controls many life decisions.

What happens at death is unknowable and unknown. This mystery permeates the desire to understand the meaning of life. This division of your dual existence as a child of God and a Son of Man is one of the great insights of what it means to be a human being. It is integral to the miracle of life. For you, accepting this duality may be an act of faith and as such requires no further understanding. For others, it is accepted as being unknowable and thus occupies very little thought or concern. Yet, whether with a conscious quest for understanding or a resignation that this is just an unsolvable dichotomy of life, this mystery can fuel a great deal of your experience of life.

It can come into a primary focus when in the human experience, we are faced with the death and loss of those we love. The pain of that loss may bring you to a longing for greater understanding.

Yet, what if I said that as you journey through your life there are a vast array of clues that reveal the deeper truth of this mystery? What if I said that the truth that you have always sensed and hoped and prayed was true?

What if you could finally understand how this mystery works and what it means in your relationships and decisions in life? Would that be of value to you? Would you be willing to take some time and make some effort to open your life to experience what is real and true?

Much of what I call the clues is subjective. You can experience the truth but not prove it scientifically. Although there is recent, from the field of quantum physics and noetic sciences, more validation that is scientific of what has been kept secret since the dawn of man. These secrets have been buried in the esoteric teachings of what is known as the Ageless Wisdom.

Questions about the eternal nature of life are dismissed as unknowable and relegated to being issues of faith. Yet, it seems as human beings we have the capacity to better understand the aspects of life that are revealed to us by the use of meditation as a bridge between the material world and the spiritual world. We can in the worlds of the ancient mantra, “be led from the darkness into Light, from the unreal to the real and from death to immortality.”

The Bible’s prolific writer St. Paul said in 1 Corinthians: 13 12, “For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face.”   It is interesting that this statement is a part of his inspired teaching about the real nature of love, for it is Love that reveals the most about what is true in life. It is love that most reveals the nature of eternity. Ponder on this.

On a deep almost preconscious level we know, not with our minds but deep in our hearts the truth of the words, love never ends.”
      – Quote by Genevieve Gerard

When you love someone, there is a bond of Love that is a connection of Souls. That makes Love a gateway to experiencing your Soul. The nature of your Soul is Love. It is your Soul that connects you with God, whose nature is Love. When you touch your Soul, you experience a love that is unconditional and eternal.

The soul is birthless, eternal, imperishable, and timeless and is never destroyed when the body is destroyed.
      – Bhagavad Gita

Your Soul is not only what connects you through Love to others and to the Divine; it is the dynamic part of your being that is eternal. It is in coming into relationship with your Soul that the mystery of eternal life is solved. It is by developing a relationship with your Soul that great wisdom and insight in your life is revealed. It is your Soul that is available to guide you to understand your purpose in life. Ponder deeply on these words!

Your Soul is much more than a vague concept. It is a source of dynamic power and deep Love that desires a relationship with the wholeness of your being, your personality, your mind, and your emotions. It is in the integration of these aspects of your human experience that a fullness of life, love, and real joy can be expressed. It is through your Soul that you are connected with God throughout your life.

We are told in the esoteric writings of the Ageless Wisdom, that when a human life is ready to incarnate, it is the Soul that draws together the atomic substance that will become the physical vehicle for the life. To do this it draws upon the one permanent atom that remains in a continuity of consciousness from previous life experiences. The Soul then merges it with a permanent atom that creates the emotional body with another permanent atom that becomes the mental body and finally with the permanent atom that forms the personality.

This phenomenon may explain why at birth, instead of a new life being a blank slate, as many believe, an astute observer will note that the personality nature of a baby, the way that they think and how they respond emotionally is already inherent in their being.

This mysterious role of the Soul in eternity opens our minds and our hearts to the unfathomable aspect of the mind of God and the nature of man as a being that is both material and Divine. Under its guidance, your human life is created and at the conclusion of your human life it is returned to and reunited with God in the Oneness of Spirit.

Ponder on this and consider what it reveals and explains in a way that resonates with you as truth.

Meditation, quiet reflection combined with the intention to open your conscious awareness to your Soul, not only empowers your life but also provides clarity and revelation that helps diminish the pain of loss that is so integral to the human experience when a loved one pass away. Touching the edge between the material and the eternal is just one of the blessings of meditation. It has been said in many spiritual circles, “you are a Soul having a human experience.”   That is much more powerful and exciting than the perspective that you are a human, having a spiritual experience. This little shift in your understanding can be significant.

Consider how this perspective is different from the thought that you are a material being striving for a spiritual experience. This shift in understanding, this expansion of your identity, opens your heart and your mind. It is the single simple step that can begin a journey to live less controlled by fear and more open to an active co-creative relationship with your Soul and ultimately with God.

This consciousness shift can create changes and greater empowerment in your life. It is a shift in identifying who and what you are. It is a portal to embracing and experiencing the Divine Love that is your birthright. Meditation is the practice that can open your mind and your heart while benefitting the health and wellbeing of your body. It is a way of integrating yourself into being all that you can be.

I Encourage You To Meditate

As you ponder the mystery of the eternal and the magic of the Soul, I invite and encourage you to incorporate the practice of meditation into your daily life. In the world, and in my work, there are wide varieties of meditations available. Many meditations, and most of my guided meditations that I have published, can be experienced in just 10-20 minutes. In many of my articles, I also provide mantra’s to ponder on and meditation techniques to experience.

I always suggest that to begin you “calm your mind, open your heart and invite the Light.”   Inviting and invoking the Presence of your Soul while quiet and receptive will yield amazing results.

Just know that there are many ways to meditate and none of them are wrong. An intention is important. A very simple meditation technique, which comes from the mindfulness community, focuses simply on awareness and breath by repeating the phrases “I am breathing in,” “I am aware that I am breathing in.”   Followed by noticing, “I am breathing out,” “I am aware that I am breathing out.”

Focusing on your breath, and observing your breath, are simple ways to enter the meditation experience. Setting aside quiet time in prayer after using words can also serve as an entrée to a meditation experience.

Try out different things. Guided meditations are often easier. One of the most challenging aspects of meditation is quieting your mind chatter, particularly the negative and self-destructive or fear elements of your mind chatter. Experiment; try different ways and different things. Find what works for you. Let your Soul guide you.

Once you have chosen a particular way to meditate, give it some consistency by setting aside 10-20 minutes daily to practice the meditation. Let your intuition and your Soul guide you.

Meditation is opening a door and if you are open, it will guide you in finding what you need from the experience. Peace of mind, emotional calm, and physical relaxation are some of the benefits of setting aside some time out of your material life for your spiritual evolution.

I also encourage journaling after a brief period of calming your mind and focusing on Love opening your heart energy, then recording your thoughts and impressions.

In my life meditation has been the tool that has enabled me to live a life of joy and spiritual relationship with the Divine and my fellow man. There is no greater gift that I can offer you than to provide you with the resources to connect with your own Soul and explore the mystery of eternity and the magic of your Soul.

To support you on your quest I have identified some other articles that may be of help to you and provided a link to one of my guided meditations that I feel would give you the experience of the gift of love and the magic of the Soul.

Namaste,

Genevieve

Into The Silence

Into the Silence: Ways To Calm Your Mind

Read Into The Silence article by Genevieve Gerard

It is in the silence that we can hear the still quiet promptings of our Soul.

It is in the silence that the Peace that Passes Understanding is Revealed.

It is when we enter into the silence that we can hear the voice of God.

The silence is a full and fertile experience opening us to an inner world that the noise of the world drowns out, and the chattering of our mind obscures.

We are instructed in the Bible to “Be still and know that I am God.” For many, perhaps for you, that stillness is hard to achieve.

To experience that silence and that deep stillness is the purpose of meditation. The portal to meditation opens when you calm your mind, open your heart and invite the Light. Each guided meditation that I have created over the years begins with the instruction to calm your mind, open your heart, invite the Light.

However, as I move through my life I hear people say, repeatedly, that they find it difficult to meditate. It seems that for many it is the first part of that injunction “Calm the Mind” that is so challenging. It makes sense then that how to teach a meditator to experience a calm mind has been the work of sages, yogis, and gurus since there have been teachers on the path to enlightened awareness.

For many people, the chatter generated in their minds drowns out the silence. This “chattering” is anything but calming for all too often it is jammed with fears, negative self-judgment, and criticism. It is liberally laced too with the unfulfilled expectation of both themselves and others.

The silence of a calm mind may seem out of reach to you. The mind’s chatter, although you are sitting quietly, may be anything but silent. This is why the regular practice of meditation is so important. It begins to school the mind that your meditation time is a sacred space and a safe space to give the chatter of your mind a rest.

It is in the silence of the calm mind and the open heart that the guidance of the Soul and Presence of God can be experienced. There are many ways that we can move toward that calmness of mind. What way you choose at any given moment of time can be varied and responsive to the events and circumstances in your life when you choose.

HOW LONG SHOULD I MEDITATE?

What seems significant is that you set aside the time and have the desire and intention to calm your mind, open your heart and invite the Light. It does not have to be a long period of time that is set aside. Ten to fifteen minutes a day would make a great difference in your life. You do not have to go away from the world as the holy men of ages past did to achieve enlightenment. You can learn to meditate and receive the many benefits and blessings of meditation right where you live and in the midst of your busy life today.

Now some may say, “I don’t have time to meditate every day.” The old wisdom response to that is to say,

If you don’t have time to meditate every day,
then meditate 2 times a day.”
        – Anonymous

If you don’t think you can take the time, take that as a sign that you can benefit even more than others from meditation.

I suggest and encourage at least a daily practice of meditation because the health benefits and the consciousness and prospective benefits are best incorporated into your life with consistency and continuity. Whereas any technique of meditation when practiced regularly can positively and dramatically transform your life, some you will find easier than others to help you experience the calmness of mind and dampening of mind chatter that is desired.

In my teaching, I found that guiding people in a meditation and focusing their minds on a particular awareness is most effective. That is why I have created so very many guided meditations.

To choose to meditate, to set aside the time with the intention and the desire to calm your mind, open your heart and experience the Light of your Soul or to hear the still quiet voice of God is what is important. How you do it is not as important. That you take the time is of paramount importance.

WHAT WORKS?

I found over the many years that I have practiced daily meditation that one technique or another best suits an individual day, situation or circumstance. Personally, I have changed meditation methods frequently. Although it is human nature for someone to think that their way is the only way, I suggest that within you is wisdom that can direct your choices, that of your Higher Self. In the world are a myriad of instructions and a wide variety of products to choose from. Some are free and some charge a fee. Some techniques are very simple and easy. Others require deep understanding. What works for you is best revealed with experimentation.

Any time you have, at the conclusion of the meditation time experienced, a greater calmness of your body, your emotions or your mind you have gained a great deal. The more often you open yourself to that experience, even if it is in the brief period it takes to think an affirmation or a seed thought, you are opening your life to a richer and deeper awareness.

In addition to guided meditation, using a mantra as either an invocation and evocation, or a repetition of a specific thought focus, or saying an affirmation are all effective tools. Pondering Koans (stories used by Zen masters to instruct on important consciousness points), saying Psalms, repeating a rosary or repeating a favorite prayer in your mind are also meditative experiences. Although there are subtle differences between the experience of prayer and meditation a prayer can often be used to quiet the mind sufficiently to bring you into the receptive part of a meditation experience, the silence.

The use of prayer beads that help followers use repetitive prayers or statements as a mantra are also a way to help you to meditate. Repetitive movements with repetitive thoughts are all ancient ways to meditate. The repetition of a Psalm or prayer is a form of coming into alignment with your Soul, as is chanting. Whatever the language used or technique employed it is the intention to open your mind and your heart to the presence of the Divine and open up to your Soul’s Light that makes the transformation happen.

Within you is a wisdom that will direct your path if you only open your heart and your mind to its Presence. You may have noticed that I often direct you in my writings to tune into that Presence and refer to it as the Soul or your Higher Self. I do this because not only are the health benefits of meditation well documented by science but there are very few things you can do in life that has as powerful and profound a positive influence as meditation, on your health or on your ability to be successful.

SOME SIMPLE MEDITATION TECHNIQUES

A very simple technique would be to declare your intention by affirming and saying:

I am of calm mind,
as I open my heart,
I invite the Light “
        – Genevieve Gerard

Then just sit in the silence, quietly and reflectively.

Of course, there is much more you can do and add to the experience but your intention to have a meditative experience once you have set aside the time is a first step. Then you can add other techniques, guided meditations, repetitive mantras, affirmations, prayers or whatever of the vast array of what is offered in the world that you feel guided to.

In a recent article, I discussed the power of an “I Am” statement. You can create a mantra to repeat in your mind out of “I Am” that defines the Presence you wish to experience that day.

Examples would be:

  • I Am Love
  • I Am Peace
  • I Am Joy

It is in the silence, the time to limit the input of your mind’s chatter as much as possible and in the quiet removal from the world’s input, that the magic of meditation happens. There are some who have created audio meditations where the sound is scientifically modulated (alpha, theta, and the deepest delta waves) to bring you into a specific meditative experience. These are helpful for some people as a way of conquering the mind chatter and putting you in a meditative state.

TAKE THE TIME TO MEDITATE

Because for me meditation has been the portal to joy and love, insight, and understanding and a sense of harmony and union with God and all of life, I encourage you to set aside the time to have a meditative experience. You can start the practice now.

I do encourage regularity. The repetition helps your mind calm as it recognizes that this is the time to be calm, too quiet the chattering mind, to tune in and receive insight.

This then becomes a sacred time as you acknowledge and recognize:

This is the time to be still.

This is the time to let yourself just be.

This is the time to open your heart to the expansion of love.

This is the time to be open to the guidance of the Light of your Soul
and the promptings of the Divine.

Taking this time is a gift you can give yourself that will repay you with blessings beyond measure. To be touched by the Presence of your Soul or to hear in the silence the voice of God guiding you, loving you or comforting you is the gift that meditation can give.

This time, set aside by you is for you and will be a blessing that can transform your life empowering you to be and become all that you are meant to be.

Namaste,

   Genevieve

The Blessing of Love on all that you do!

Calm Your Mind

Calm Your Mind

Read Calm Your Mind - Serenity Sunday Article by Genevieve Gerard

Calm your mind,
Open Your Heart,
Invite the Light

These are the instructions that I use at the start of every guided meditation that I create.

When I reflect upon what characteristics best exemplify a spiritual life, I realize that the qualities of patience, kindness and calmness are key virtues for us to strive to develop in our life.

I believe you can best manifest these qualities as a reflection of your experiences received in meditation. The practice of meditation and ultimately the discipline of meditation, focus you on calming your mind.

Quieting your mind is an ongoing challenge for those of us who practice meditation, no matter what form of meditation we practice.

It is only in the quiet mind that the full peace of the serenity of our Soul can be experienced.”
     – Genevieve Gerard

It is in the quiet mind that we can open ourselves to the wonder and the Oneness of the Universal Presence. It is in a quiet mind that the promptings of your spirit guides and guardian angels can be heard. It is in the quiet mind that intuition can be truly revealed.

The more tranquil a man becomes, the greater is his success, his influence, his power for good. Calmness of mind is one of the beautiful jewels of wisdom.
     – James Allen

Releasing Anger

Calming your mind requires an active manifestation of the important principle of detachment, because to achieve that blessed state of calm you must disconnect from and release any anger you may be carrying, which will automatically bring you in touch with forgiveness. This forgiveness often needs to focus on those who have annoyed you, whether with petty acts or grand, but in order to extend the grace of forgiveness to another; you will find you must also extend that forgiveness to yourself first.

This contradiction of that by giving we receive has been revealing itself more and more clearly in my recent meditations. It seems to be an important principle. Ponder on this. It is very empowering.

This release and this resolution of whatever anger you have been experiencing combines with a spontaneous ripple effect of shifting your awareness away from the events that made you angry. This does much to bring calmness to your mind and quiet the chatter, by letting go of expectation, demands or desire.

This movement in your consciousness from expectation, desire, and demand, to letting go of your anger enables you to forgive both the other person and yourself. By this act of forgiveness, you will accomplish a great step forward in calming your mind.

All of this can occur in a nanosecond once you consciously turn your attention toward the content of your mind chatter and the emotions that are locked within it. You might find that this process is enhanced by taking a really deep breath and exhaling fully. The deep breath not only enhances the experience of the release but it also works with the physiology of the autonomic nervous system as the deep breath signals the body-mind-spirit connection that you are now safe to be calm.

Concurrently, your being is interwoven with the influences of your mind, your emotions, and your Soul. The release of the anger and the dual decision to forgive both yourself and the other person spontaneously opens your heart to experience more love.

Open Your Heart

This opening of the heart is the second instruction that I give each time I introduce a guided meditation.

When you open your heart with a quiet mind love rushes in.”
     – Genevieve Gerard

The initial focus to calm your mind has a cascading benefit that is like domino’s falling bringing greater benefit and blessing.

When you open your heart with a quiet mind you are able to both give and receive more love. The heart becomes an open receptacle for the love your Soul brings to you and the love that is available to you from God or Source that is your birthright as a child of God.

Your heart opened makes it possible for you to love without demands or conditions. In this state of openness the qualities of compassion and kindness are stimulated in your consciousness.

Compassion, like forgiveness, cannot really be given, without also being received. This interrelationship and interplay of energies do much to bring about the desired effect of calming your mind. The combined factors of letting go of desires and expectation, and the resulting release of anger, by stimulating forgiveness of both the other and yourself, all shift your awareness and render your heart open to receiving and expressing love.

The initially stated intention to enter into meditation by calming your mind has opened you to all of these blessings.

The second injunction that I give at the start of every guided meditation to open your heart began automatically as you let go of your anger in the process of quieting your mind; forgiving yourself and the other.

To consciously choose to open your heart in the approach and intention of meditating does much to expand and enhance your experience of meditating. By adding the power of intention to what you are experiencing and adding the wisdom of understanding, the power and influence that meditation can have in your life will be significant.

Invite The Light With Meditation

The last instruction I give with each guided meditation is to invite the Light.

Inviting the Light is a step to enlightened awareness. Enlightenment is expressed in the peace, the calm and the love and the joy which becomes a state of being offered to all who tread upon the path of meditation.

There are a myriad of benefits and blessings along the way. Among these are the now undisputed health benefits of meditation. Meditation has been proven to reduce physical stress. It can also give you a different perspective and a sense of Universal Oneness. In addition, the transformation available to your life as you learn to forgive both yourself and others can be very powerful, very profound and very freeing.

The integration of all of the talents and tools that you have as one who has a body (an amazing and complex source of delight and sensation), emotions (a rich and diverse portal to enjoyment and happiness) and a Soul (the gateway to joy and bliss) is a miracle. It is the miracle we call human life. It is a miracle with which you are blessed. And because we live each life of this miracle blessed by free will, it is a miracle that we are empowered to make of it what we will.

In my life meditation has provided the way to harness and to calm my mind as I receive the blessing and benefits of a calm mind. Meditation is the tool that has enabled me to forgive both others and myself. It is how I have conquered the stresses, the strains and the pains in life. It is how I have utilized universal laws such as the Law of Attraction and the dynamic opportunity to be a co-creator in my life through the principle that Energy Follows Thought.

There is no work I can do that I believe to be more important than teaching about and creating meditations. There is no gift or service that I can give that offers more opportunity to help you live your life in joy fulfilling your potential and promise, manifesting your Soul purpose.

In my adventure through the lessons of my life, meditation is the foundational pillar upon which I build. I am far from perfect. I often fall way short of whom and how I would like to be. I am a work in progress and will remain a work in progress all of the days of my life.

For me, meditation is the way I progress along the path. Mediation has become over the years a practice that has given me so much, taught me so much and exposed me to so much that my joy and my love overflow into so many aspects of my life that my gratitude for this great gift to all of my teachers and guides along the way is unlimited and ongoing.

I wish this great joy and this blessing for you:

Calm Your Mind, Open Your Heart, Invite The Light!

Namaste,

Genevieve

Living In Joy Workshop

April 3rd, 2016 in Boca Raton, FL

9:00am—1:00pm (gather at 8:30am)

Explore & Experience
Living In Joy

Are you living in joy?  Genevieve Gerard wants to share with you the joy of life that is your birthright and empower you to heal and transform your life to be all that you can be.  Her work utilizes the techniques of awareness, visualization, release and meditation as she guides you through transformation into joy.  Let Genevieve guide you to follow your heart, your mind and your soul, to celebrate the joy that fulfilling your purpose and finding your place in the plan of life will bring to you.

In this workshop you will be guided to discover, perceive, and appreciate joy in your life.

Among the subjects we will cover are:

  • how to attract and feel more joy in our lives,
  • the relationship between gratitude and joy,
  • how we can enhance our interpersonal relationships to create joy

And how meditation, a sense of oneness with life and our ability to “be in the now” can play a role in finding joy and embracing it in our experience.

You will learn new ways to find grace through forgiveness, and you will be given tools to release negative thoughts and emotions.  Genevieve will show you how being in the now, conquering negative self-talk and releasing expectations, frees you from the toxic influence of living with “shoulds” and “oughts”, thus releasing joy and love into your life and into your relationships.

The wisdom revealed in this workshop is rooted in the rich soil of experience Genevieve gained over decades of spiritual study and practice that have brought her to a life of profound joy.  It is her deep desire that the potential of a life of joy and celebration that seems to elude so many people can become a reality for you, now and forever.

Please join Genevieve Gerard for her

So you thought meditation sounded cool, but a bit esoteric and possibly hard to get into?  You feared it was done by wandering mystics and yogis who chant mantras at dawn?  You are right.  It is also true that meditation is a 5,000 year old practice anyone can learn, and it is absolutely relevant to modern life.

New research confirming the value of meditation is continually being presented in the media and much of the new research is documenting the many physiological changes that are created by the practice of meditation.

Meditation has been proven by modern medical research to:

  • Improve Health,
  • Reduce Stress Levels,
  • Improve Sleep Patterns,
  • and Increase Well Being
